The lower section presents five drawers in a three-over-two configuration, each drawer faced in the same red lacquered wood and fitted with hand-forged iron warabite (蕨手, bracken-fern) bail handles — the characteristic curved form whose name derives from the young fern frond it resembles. Flat iron strap reinforcements and corner plates with square-head nail rivets are applied across the drawer fronts and case edges in the manner of Meiji-period commercial tansu production, simultaneously structural and decorative.
