Antique Japanese Zushi - Wood Carved Statue of Quan-Yin Avalokitishvara Kanon Bodisattva of Compassion Standing Pose with a snake around her waist symbolzing compassion for all living beings.

The black lacquer case is what’s referred to as an “armor alter” or armor shrine. These alters where attached to armor by a chord slipped though the ring located on the top. This puts the Alter in the Edo Period or earlier (c. 18th century) or older.

The statue while old does not look original and instead appears to date from the Meiji period, late 1800's.

4” tall x 3”wide
