This is a square ceramic flat bottomed bowl in a style called Oribe ware traditionally used in tea ceremony and fancied by Lord Oribe (c.1600) a disciple of Rikyu the originator of the modern tea ceremony practice. It dates to the mid - Showa Era and has a green colored glaze over a traditional clear glaze which reveals the Oribe clay beneath. Deep earthy brown brush stokes in grids and plum blossoms add to the traditional nature of this style of bowl. It would be appropriate to use this bowl when the plum blossoms first bloom.

This bowl measures 5 1/2" square and about 2 1/2" deep (14 x 4 cm). Having been in storage with limited use in recent decades it remains in very fine condition.
