Japanese Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Buddha Sculpture
An antique Japanese hand carved wood figural statue. A representation of Ksitigarbha, Lord of the Six Ways, a Bodhisattva revered in Buddhism and depicted traditionally as a bald Buddhist monk. Modeled standing atop a lotus form, surmounting an ornate rectangular form plinth base. Exemplary carved details, with profuse gilt embellishments. Hands modeled holding a Cintamani, or wish-fulfilling jewel, with right hand suggesting it previously held an element representing a khakkhara staff to open the gates of ignorance. No apparent signature. Statue detaches from lotus and Figurine.
