Antique Japanese (c.1880) Signed Tokkuri Large 13" Sake Jug Sake Bottle/Vase
This is an antique Japanese large sake jug (tokkuri) from the mid Meiji Era (c.1880). This type of sake jug was one of the first recyclables in that it could be returned to the sake company that made it and be refilled. It is all hand made and fired at high temperatures for lasting durability. It has the name of the sake company and their specialty sake written in black glaze.
This large ceramic sake jug measures about 7 " in diameter by 13" tall (17 x 33 cm) and other than a small chip out of the lip/spout (see pictures 7 & 8) it remains invery good condition. It is high fire glazed both inside and out. Great as a stand alone piece of art with calligraphy or for use as a vase with a century of history. It weighs about 6 pounds and is water tight.
