Antique Japanese (C1900) Signed Tokkuri Large Sake Jug Sake Bottle (Vase) 13"
This is an antique Japanese large sake jugfrom the late Meiji Era (c. 1900). This one is 13.5" tall and covered on two sides with very decorative calligraphy. This type of sake jug was one of the first recyclables in that it could be returned to the sake company that made it and be refilled. It is all hand made and fired at high temperatures for lasting durability. Tokkuri (徳利) is the general term for a sake bottle.
This large ceramic sake jug measures 6" in diameter by 13 1/2" tall (15 x 34 cm) and remains ingood antique condition. Please note the chip on the mouth of the jug. It is high fire glazed both inside and out. Great as a stand alone piece of art with calligraphy. It weighs almost 7 lbs.
