Antique Japanese Cast Iron Sake Warmer Tetsubin Bronze Lid W/ Enamel Inside Ume
This is an antique Japanese mid Meiji Era (c.1880) Sake tetsubin (iron pot). It is made of cast iron and has a raised decorative calligraphy (appears to say "luck") design on one side and on the other plum blossoms. The bronze lid has a chrysanthemum bud finial on the top. It is made of very thick iron to hold the heat longer. It measures about 5" (12.5 cm) in diameter not including the handle or spout by 6 1/2" tall (16.5 cm) and 9 1/2" with the spout (24 cm) and holds about a liter of liquid. Having been in storage for most of the past 100 years and seldom used, it remains in fine condition.
