This is a Japanese ceramic lidded round case called a kōgō. It is hand painted with a red chrysanthemum design at its center surrounded by floral patterns in red, green and orange. Kōgō are used to hold powdered incense and are displayed in the alcove of a tea room.They are also used to hold small, personal treasures, and it is no surprise that kōgō have quite a following among collectors around the world who appreciate their diversity and, among other things, portability when traveling. This kōgō was high fired for lasting durability. Use it to display in a tokonoma, or to store small precious things
This bowl measures 6 1/2" in diameter by 2" tall (16.5 x 5 cm). Having been long forgotten in storage in the back of small town general store for decades these bowl have seen no use and remain in fine condition.One bowl per order, available in multiples.
