Antique Japanese Chobadansu Meiji Era Keyaki Elm Tansu Chest 40"W
Antique Japanese Chobadansu Meiji Era Keyaki Elm Tansu Chest 40"W
This is a rare beauty. It has a very unusual configuration for a tansu, as if it may have been custom made for a merchant or artisan. It has features of a Chobadansu or document/merchant Tansu, including 9 drawers with three different keys plus another key for the sliding doors. However, it also has a Chikadana display area like would be expected from a Chadansu (Tea Chest). The highly figured wood grain stunning in all Keyaki exterior and Kiri interiors. As well as being an amazing statement piece this Chobadansu has a lot of storage and display area with 9 drawers and the dedicated display area.
