Antique Japanese Lacquered Paper Box With Marrage Rocks In Gold On Red

This is an antique Japanese paper  lacquered box originally used as a storage box for hair ornaments such as combs and hair pins. This box appears to be made of paper which has been lacquered to create an ultra-light ridged box. The top is rounded and has a hole in the sides for a flat silk chord. Covered in over 20 coats of brown lacquer with all sides straight and true this box remains in acceptable condition. It measures 8 1/2" wide by 3 1/2" tall by 1" deep (21.5 x 9 x 2.5 cm). A cool accent for your home or office. Great to hold any treasures that need a good home. The box has chips on the corners as well as well as separations due to the papers expanding and contracting over time and scratches appropriate for its age (see pics 4 and 5).
