Antique Japanese Meiji Era (1868-1912) Hakari Tenbin Balance Scale Weight
This is an antique Japanese balance scale (hakari) weight dating to the late Meiji Era (1868-1912). It has Japanese writing on one side and a shop logo on the other. It is bell shaped with a lanyard ring at the top to adjust up and down a pole scale.
Seen in the last picture is a bar or pole scale (not included) similar to the one which would have originally been used a similar weight. Stamped in copper inlay is the official indication that this is a precise measure "正"
Markings "大阪" Osaka (City). "秤量拾貮貫"
Height = 4" (10cm)
Diameter = 3" (7.5cm)
Weight = 4lbs 15.2oz (2kg 244g)
With exception to some blemishes and oxidation it has a nice aged patina, it remains in very good functional condition.
