Antique Japanese Meiji Era c1890's Clothing Tansu Kiri Wood w/ Custom Base 36"W
This is an antique Japanese Meiji era c1890's clothing chest from the kiri and sugi wood. Used traditionally for storing kimono and accessories. The Kiri wood face and Sugi wood case construction was used to better control the humidity level that the fabrics would be exposed to.
This tansu chest is made with pegged-tenon open-mortise corner box joint construction. This chest has a beautifully natural wood finish. All drawers and doors move easily without binding. All hardware is Iron with clean round lock plates.
This chest has a century of gentle use and has been lovingly faced for, it remains in very fine original antique condition and should serve one well for another century of use. There are some areas that show it's ages. It measures 36" wide by 25" high by 16" deep (114 x 36 x 41 cm). A great piece of Japanese history and an interesting and very solid and functional piece of furniture.
