Antique Japanese Full Sized Samurai armor for display and costume.
This armor is made of steal plating held together with silk cords. It includes the body, helmet, shoulder parts and thigh covers. While not complete with all parts (gauntlets, foot covers, etc.) it certainly makes an impressive statement piece. Likely used for ceremonial purposes or pageantry in the 19th century. The whole set was made with great care for details that Japanese arts are known for. It has not be well maintained in recent decades and has condition issues that can be seen in the photos such as fading and frayed cords.
This armor consists of only the helmet, torso box, soda (big square shoulder panels) the paneled skirt and upper leg protection skirt. It does NOT have the armored sleeves, shin guards, shoes or belt. the body is around 32" from shoulder to the plates hanging below the body of the armor.
The armor is small and may be the right size for a young teenager of short stature. It came to us from Japan among our many other treasures.
