Antique Japanese Taisho Era c1920's Clothing Tansu Kiri Wood 45"
This is an antique Japanese clothing chest from the taisho era c1920's made of all kiri wood. Used traditionally for storing kimono and accessories. The all Kiri wood construction was used to better control the humidity level that the fabrics would be exposed to.
This tansu chest is made with pegged-tenon open-mortise corner box joint construction. This chest has a beautifully light natural wood finish. All drawers and doors move easily without binding. All hardware is bronze with detailed lock plates.
This chest has a century of gentle use and has been lovingly faced for, it remains in very fine original antique condition and should serve one well for another century of use. There are some areas that show it's ages. It measures 45" wide by 25" high by 16" deep (114 x 36 x 41 cm). A great piece of Japanese history and an interesting and very solid and functional piece of furniture.
