This is a Japanese Edo era netsuke from the late 1700's . It is in the round two part manju form. Manu netsuke are in the form of a manju (Japanese confection). This one is of a durable boxwood and made in two parts which can be separated to insert the himo (sting). They come together in a tight fit. It looks like a possible artists signature on the inside (see picture 10).
Measures 1 1/2" tall (4 cm). Along with a 200 year old patina, it remains in good condition.
