This is a Japanese specialty box with an interesting locking mechanism (see pictures for how it works) used to store tea ceremony utensils. It has space for a Chawan, Mizusashi, Kinsui, chasen, natsume and a drawer for the Chatham, fukusa and chain as well as a spot for the ladle in the front. Just add warm water and you have all the parts for a tea ceramony. This chabako is constructed all of Kiri wood (Paulownia) in the tradition of old Japanese craftsmanship. It has an interesting pin locking mechanism that provides space for a traditional pad lock. Our padlock in in the shape of a lucky bat. This box has a front panel that fits snugly to safely hold tea items.

This box remains in good condition. It measures 4" wide by 4" deep by 12" tall ( 10 x 10 x 12.5 cm).The beautiful wood grain in this Paulowina makes for an eye catching little piece to brighten up your space.
