Vintage Japanese (C. 1960) Hand Made Lacquered Bamboo Dish Serving Set W/ Box
This is a vintage Japanese Showa Era (c. 1960) hand made serving set comprising of a woven bamboo basket dish with over 20 coats of natural Japanese urushi lacquer, lacquered hashi (chopsticks) and a signed hashi-oki (chopstick rest). Interestingly, the feet of the plate are made from lacquered walnut shells. The plate appears to be in the shape of a plum blossom.
Having been in storage and protected by its presentation box for over 50 years and never used, this serving set remains in excellent condition throughout and is in good polish. The box measures 9 1/2" square by 2 1/2" tall (24 x 24 x 6 cm) the bamboo dish measures 7 1/2" square by 2 1/4" tall (19 x 19 x 5.5 cm), the hashi are 7 3/4" long (19.5 cm) and the hashi-oki is 1 7/8" long by 7/8" wide by 1/2" tall (4.5 x 2 x 1.2 cm).
