Vintage Japanese Hokkaido Ainu Carved Statues Man & Woman 12" Tall Folk Art

This is a pair of vintage Japanese wooden Ainu carvings of a man and woman shown wearing traditional Ainu clothing. They are most likely carved from cryptomeria or sugi (杉). The Ainu people are the indigenous native peoples of northern Japan (Hokkaido 北海道). They have a long tradition of carving animals, spiritual objects and daily household items. Having been in storage these remains in overall fine condition .
