Vintage Japanese Sakazuki Sake Cup Tokoname-Yaki Style Guinomi W Poem 2.5"
This is a vintage Japanese hand made ceramic sakazuki (sake cup) also known as a guinomi. Likely from the region of one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan - Tokoname, Aichi prefecture. The distinctive red-orange color of the glaze made this region famous since the Heian period in the 12th century. It is decorated in a black etching of a Japanese poem (Sorry, unable to translate). Snow White glaze on the inside.
Its size makes the perfect sake cup for sipping your evening sake or a very elegant way to sip your evening cordial! Likely a mid to late 2oth century piece it is in fine condition with no chips or hairlines. It measures 2.5" in diameter by about 1 3/4" tall (6.5 x 3 cm).
