Antique C 1880 Meiji Era Japanese Bronze Candle Stand

This is an antique Japanese Meiji Era (c. 1880) bronze candle holder. It is made of a turned bronze with iron spike to hold the candle from falling over.  The protective center spike is typical of all Japanese candle stands and was a safety device to prevent fires during an earth quake or misshandling the candle. The candles as well had a hole on their base to sit on the spike.

This candle holder is made of a bronze and measures 3 3/4" in diameter (9.5 cm). Having been used lovingly, with exception to a dark aged patina, it remains infine condition.
