This exquisite piece of antique 100+ year old Japanese hand woven cotton features traditional designs created using the traditional tsutsugaki dyeing technique.
Tsutsugaki involves hand-drawing patterns with a resist paste, resulting in intricate and vivid designs. 

The Kamon or family crest shown is the Kashiwa mon. Symbolizing the oak Leaf this mon represented prosperity and continuity since the leaf persist until near buds form. One of the ten most commonly used kamon used in old Japan. This specific Kashiwa is known as the Maru ni Mitsu Kashiwa or "Three Oak Leaves in a Ring".
