This exquisite piece of antique 100+ year old Japanese indigo, hand woven cotton features a central mon (family crest) design created using the traditional tsutsugaki dyeing technique. Tsutsugaki involves hand-drawing patterns with a resist paste, resulting in intricate and vivid designs. This 4 panel fabric rendered in indigo hues was once a kakebuton (a kind of bedspread).

The Kamon or family crest shown is the Tachi-Omodaka mon. Symbolizing the Arrowhead Plant this mon represented victory and samurai valor since the plant was known to growth strong in water and the leaves look similar to a samurai kabuto helmet. This crest was used by the Mizuno clan during the Edo period.

Perfect for collectors of Japanese textiles or those seeking a unique decorative piece, this fabric embodies the artistry and cultural heritage of Japan.
