Antique Japanese Black Lacquer Lidded Wooden Kashizara Gold Chrysanthemum
Antique Japanese Black Lacquer Lidded Wooden Kashizara Gold Chrysanthemum
This is an antique Japanese mid Taisho Era (c. 1920) black lacquer octagonal wooden lidded kashizara (appetizer container) made of cryptomeria wood with over twenty layers of black lacquer toped with a gold rendering of chrysanthemum and butterfly. Japanese lacquer from this period was considered the finest ever made. It is durable enough to withstand the harshest treatment the centuries have thrown at it.
Having been in storage for over a century with very little signs of past use, this kashizara remains in very fine condition throughout and is in good polish. Measures 5 1/4" in across by 3" tall (13 x 7.5 cm).
