Antique Japanese Bronze Candle Holder Statue Crane Bird & Turtle (Tsuru/Kame)
Antique Japanese Bronze Candle Holder Statue Crane Bird & Turtle (Tsuru/Kame)
This is an antique late Meiji era (c.1900) Japanese bronze candle holder in the shape of a crane and turtle (tsuru and kame). The crane is standing on the turtle and is looking gracefully down at it. The candle holder on the cranes side can be removed (see pictures 8 - 11). Together the crane and tortoise symbolize longevity, immortality, peace, and endurance.
This bronze candle holder statue measures about 8" tall by 4 1/2" long (20 x 12 cm) . Other than an aged patine, some minor oxidation it remains in good condition. Note: The removeable 2 part candle holder is a very loose fit in the loop at the cranes side and will need a shim to hold it in place if you are to use a candle. The Japanese candles have a hole in their base to keep from falling over when inserted in the spike on the candle stand.
