This is an antique Japanese bronze hibachi likely from the Meiji era (1868-1912). The bronze is beautifully patina decorated with silver along the top and overall done in the shape of a persimmon. The handles are very robust, making this heavy object easy to carry.. Traditionally in Japan a hibachi is considered an enclosure for fire, usually hot coals sitting on a bed of ash used to help heat small spaces, lite a pipe or warm water for tea or as general space heaters.
A great container for plants and flowers or a striking statement piece of decor.
