This is an antique Japanese sake jugfrom the late Meiji Era (c. 1900). This one is 10"" tall and covered with very decorative calligraphy. This type of sake jug was one of the first recyclables in that it could be returned to the sake company that made it and be refilled. It is all hand made and fired at high temperatures for lasting durability. It has the name of the sake company, Oshima Shun-etsu (大嶋俊逸) (see first picture) in Inuyama (犬山) city (see second picture) with their address. Tokkuri (徳利) is the general term for a sake bottle.

This ceramic sake jug measures 4 1/2"" in diameter by 10"" tall (11.5 x 25.5 cm) and remains in fine condition  It is high fire glazed both inside and out. Great as a stand alone piece of art with calligraphy. It weighs about 3 lbs.
