Antique Japanese (C1890) Sugi Wood Storage Box For Hibachi Wood Pins 25.5"
This is an antique Japanese specialty box from the late Meiji era once used to store bronze hibachi. It was made all wood (cryptomeria) in the tradition of old Japanese craftsmanship including wooden pins to secure the box together. This box has a lid and two compartments. Calligraphy is written on the top and inside of the lid as well as the end of the box. It notes the original contents. Having been used lovingly and in storage for over a century, along with a warm aged patina this antique storage box remains in fine condition.
It measures 22 1/2" long by 11" wide by 10 1/2" tall (57 x 28 x 26.5 cm). Each compartment measures about 10 1/2" square. Beautiful wood grain in this Japanese cedar. A great piece of Japanese history with a wonderful warm aged patina.
