Antique Japanese (C1900) Signed Tokkuri Sake Jug Sake Bottle (Vase) 13"
This is an antique Japanese sake jug from the late Meiji Era (c. 1900). This one is 13" tall and covered with very decorative calligraphy rendered in a deep blue glaze. This type of sake jug was one of the first recyclables in that it could be returned to the sake company that made it and be refilled. It is all hand made and fired at high temperatures for lasting durability. It has the name of the sake company, Motokatsu本勝 as well as the phone number 156 the back. Tokkuri (徳利) is the general term for a sake bottle.
This ceramic sake jug measures 6 1/4" in diameter by 13" tall (9.5 x 19.5 cm) and remains in condition. It is high fire glazed both inside and out. Great as a stand alone piece of art with calligraphy. It weighs about 6 lbs.
