This is an antique Japanese Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) container called a Suiban made of high fire ceramic for strength. It is expertly decorated with hand painted designs of Pine, Bamboo and Plum Blossoms - an auspicious trio called Shochikubai and often used in Japanese art to symbolize strength and perseverance. It is 2.5" deep. It is in very good condition and weighs in at nearly 10 pounds.
