This is an antique Japanese scroll from the early Edo era (c. 1583 - 1638) by the famous Japanese artist Tosa Mitsunori of a beautiful courtesan.  The included original kiri wood presentation box has the artists name on the top with the words: beauty print by Tosa Mitsunori.  Mitsunori was best known for his delicate minatures like this one. The scrolls end caps have several layers of black lacquer with a makae (raised gold) lacquer painting of a chrysanthemum. This scroll is approximately 34" long by 7 1/2" wide (86 x 19 cm). The actual artwork is 9" high by 5" wide (23 x 12.5 cm). It is overall in very fine condition . The original signed kiri (paulownia) wood box is also in very good condition with noticeable aged patina.
