Antique Japanese Edo Era (C. 1700) Forged Iron Warehouse Door Lock Plate
This is a hand forged lock plate from a Japanese warehouse door from the mid Edo era (c.1700). The inner mechanism is not included but it would have been the cover plate for the lock on a 300 year old Japanese warehouse or exterior door (see examples in pictures 10 & 11).
With exception to minor signs of past use, minor oxidation, and an aged patina, this tansu lock plate remains in overall fine condition. It measure approximately 10" wide by 10" by 1/16" thick (25 x 25 x .2 cm).
Pictures 10 & 11 give an example of the kind of door that this lock plate was once used. We have an inventory of over 12 various size Japanese warehouse doors. This door is not included in this listing but can be seen in a current sailerking listing.
