This is a hand forged tansu key from the early 1800s of the mid Edo period (c. 1800). It fits the kind of lock seen in photo (lock not included).
With exception of signs of past use, (minor oxidation, and an aged patina) this tansu key remains in overall good condition. It measure 2 1/4" long with a shaft opening of 1/4" (5.5cm x 6mm).
The last picture gives an example of the kind of tansu chest that this key was once used. We have an inventory of over 100 various size Japanese tansu locks. We also have over 150 Edo and Meiji era tansu chests of all kinds. Let us know if you are in search of a specific style and size.
