This is an antique Japanese late Edo Era (c. 1850's) all hand painted tea cup (Yunomi) used specifically for drinking sencha. These days this size cup is also often used for drinking sake, especially chilled. This teacup was fired in a wood burning kiln at high temperatures for lasting durability. It has a stylized plum blossom and bamboo design in akai-imari (multi-color imari).

It measures 3 1/4" in across by 2 1/2" tall (8 x 6.5 cm). This cup remains in fine condition with no chips or hairlines. A perfect size for enjoying sencha, green tea, or other drinks!  Six cups were available at the time of listing.
