The tall ovoid body rises to a slightly flared neck, the form elegant and well-proportioned at this scale. Body, shoulder, and neck are covered overall in the hanazume (花詰, packed-flower) pattern: densely spaced kiku (菊, chrysanthemum) heads in gold against a finely stippled teal-green ground, with karakusa (唐草) gold scrolling vine interwoven throughout. Gold banded registers define the neck and foot, providing clean framing for the allover decoration. The effect is rich and textile-like — the gold enamel work precise and consistent across the full height of the piece. The color combination — ao (blue-green) ground with gold — places this in the ao-Kutani (青九谷) palette tradition, the green-dominant decorative lineage within the Kutani repertoire. Kutani ware (九谷焼) originates in Ishikawa Prefecture and is renowned for its bold overglaze enamel decoration and elaborate gilt work. The hanazume chrysanthemum allover pattern was among the most widely produced Kutani decorative schemes of the mid-Shōwa period. At 18 inches, this vase carries substantial presence — well above typical export scale for this pattern.
