Antique Japanese Meiji 1800'S Imari Ceramic Bowl Fukurokuji Riding Crane 8.5"
This is an antique Japanese late Edo Era (c. 1860) Imari ceramic plate hand painted with design of flowers, pine trees, and one of the seven lucky gods Fukurokuji, considered to be the God of the Southern Cross which represents virility, fertility, wisdom and longevity, riding on the back of a Crain in flight. In the center is a tranquil scene of a hut by a lake with mountains in the distance surrounded by natural geometric patterns on the walls of the bowl. All very auspicious shapes and protective patterns. The plate is made with high fired ceramics for lasting durability. This deep bowl measures just over 8 1/2" in diameter by 4 1/4" tall (21.5 x 10 cm). Having been in storage for most of the past century this bowl remains in very fine condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. Some wear on the gold helps indicate the age and authenticity.
