Antique Japanese Meiji Era (1868-1912) Hakari Tenbin Balance Scale Weight 1lb
This is an antique Japanese balance scale (hakari) weight dating to the Meiji Era (1868-1912). It has Japanese writing on one side and a shop logo on the other. It is bell shaped with a lanyard ring at the top to adjust up and down a pole scale.
Seen in the last picture is a bar or pole scale (not included) similar to the one which would have originally been used a similar weight. Stamped in copper inlay is the official indication that this is a precise measure "正"
Markings "京都" Kyoto (City). "秤量貮貫" weighing scale.
Height = 2.5" (6.5cm)
Diameter = 1.5" (4cm)
Weight = .99lb (446g)
With exception to some blemishes and oxidation it has a nice aged patina, it remains in very good functional condition.
