This is a hand forged lock from a Japanese tansu chest from the early Meiji period (c. 1870). It has all of its original patina including burnt lacquer protective finish.  It is still operational with included key (see pictures).

With exception of minor signs of past use, (minor oxidation, and an aged patina) this tansu lock remains in overall  very good condition. It measure 4 3/4" wide by 4 1/4" tall by 1/2" thick (11 x 10.5 x 1.5 cm).

The last picture gives an example of the kind of tansu chest that this lock was once used. We have an inventory of over 100 various size Japanese tansu locks. We also have over 50 Edo and Meiji era tansu chests of all kinds. Let us know if you are in search of a specific style and size.
