This is an antique Japanese late Meiji Era (c. 1880's)AkaiImari ceramic lidded bowl. It has a repeated hand painted design of two different scenes with geometric traditional patterns on both the bowl and lid. The patterns surround windows that look upon gardens featuring pine boughs and bamboo gardens. The lid fits over the bowl nicely to keep your soup or rice warm. This bowl was high fired for lasting durability.

A great example of Meiji art of this period.

This bowl measures 4 3/4" in diameter by 3" tall with the lid (12 x 8 cm). Having been in storage for almost a hundred years, it remains in fine condition.
