This is an antique Japanese mid Meiji Era (c. 1930) small ceramic dish. It is all hand thrown and hand painted with a scenic design featuring three geisha sitting along a river bank with a house and blossoming plum trees in the background. There is also a gold painted rim and a geometric patterns reminiscent of a parasol and kimono fabric at the top of the plate. The back of the plate has the artist's signature, Kutani written in gold paint. It was high fired for lasting durability. This dish measures 7 1/4" across by 7/8" high (18.5 x 2.2 cm) and remains in excellent condition. An excellent serving plate and also great for serving a variety of appetizers. It is truly a work of stand alone art.
