Antique Japanese Meiji Era (c1880) Cloisonné Black Vase Maple Tree & Birds 6”
This is a beautiful Japanese Meiji era (c. 1870-90's) ornate cloisonné vase. The enamel decorations are of maple leaves, flowers, irises and birds with irises on the obverse with solid black background. There is minor damage to the enamel in several places that can be seen in the photos but they hardly detract from the beauty and the amazing craftsmanship. Made of copper, copper alloys and vitreous glass enamel.
This vase is 6" tall by 3" in diameter (15 x 7.5 cm). It weighs 8.7oz. Having been carefully displayed for nearly five decades since acquired by a dedicated local collector, it remains in good condition. NOTE: There are several areas that show damage. Please see photos for details.
This is a wonderful example of Meiji era Japanese cloisonné. This is one of over 110 beautiful pieces of this exquisite Japanese art currently being offered by Shogun's Gallery.
