Antique Japanese Meiji Era c1880 Katana Sword Tansu Chest Kiri Wood 44"W

This is an Antique Japanese Katana-dansu or Sword Chest. This chest was made in the Meiji era (1868-1912) of all kiri (paulownia) wood construction. Katanadansu were used to store precious samurai swords and related accessories.

This tansu chest is made with pegged-tenon open-mortise corner box joint construction. This chest has all its 100+ year old deep rich patina. All drawers and doors move easily without binding. All hardware is hand forged iron with Warabite style handles.  All locks are still operable with an included key. Forged iron side handles aid in transporting this chest even when fully loaded with possessions.
