Antique Japanese Meiji Era (C1900) One Drawer Tansu Chest/Desk Zelkova Wood 30"
Dating to the early 1900's, this is a very special antique Japanese one drawer student's desk made of solid (zelkova) wood with kiri (paulownia) wood interiors. Is finely lacquered in the centuries old Japanese tradition giving it a very durable and beautiful finish that nicely compliments the wood grain. This type of bench like tansu was known as a tsukue (desk) and held writing materials and it was a perfect size to act as a desk sitting on the tatami floor. he method of construction (wooden pin) as well as all the early industrial copper handles with exception of minor signs of past use and a nice warm aged century old patina, this chest remains in good antique condition. The drawer opens and closes with ease.
Toyokuni This tsukue dansu desk/chest measures 30" wide by 15" deep by 13" high (78 x 38 x 33 cm). A very warm accent for your home or office. Great to use as a stand on a desk or chest.
