This is an antique Japanese Butusdan which is a scared and intricately crafted household alter, typically adorned with delicate carvings and lacquerwork. It serves as a focal point for Buddhist rituals, creating a serene space for pryer and meditation within the home.
The highest level of craftsmanship was required to hand make the carving, detailed decor of the metal work and assembly of the whole piece. The lacquerwork allow is a work of art with 10-20 layers of natural urushi lacquer applied and cured over many week.
