Antique Japanese Momo Lacquer Plate W/ Hand Painted Japanese Maple Leaves 6"
Antique Japanese Momo Lacquer Plate W/ Hand Painted Japanese Maple Leaves 6"
This is an antique Japanese momo (peach blossom) shaped plate. It would have been used to serve tea or small appetizers. It is hand turned made of cryptomeria wood with over 20 coats of Japanese transparent lacquer. The wood grain is visible across the shining surface. This plate features hand painted red and silver Japanese maple leaves scattered on the surface. A beautiful example of Japanese lacquerware done by a master craftsman.
Having been used lovingly for over a century this plate has a single hairline across the middle but is still in good condition. The plate measures 6" in diameter by 1/4" tall ( 15 x 1 cm). A very elegant and functional piece of art to serve to guests.
