Antique Japanese Round Bent-Wood Sugi Box Red-Brown Lacquer Sushi Rice Bowl

This is an antique Japanese lidded brown lacquer bowl/box with red lacquer. The lacquer is thin enough to beautifully show the wood grain but durable enough to last over a century. Japanese lacquer is considered the finest in the world. Originally used for serving rice. It is recommended that this antique be used for display and decoration or storage of your small treasures.

Having been in storage for most of the past century, with exception of signs of wear and split seams, this lidded bowl remains in good antique condition. It is no longer water tight and while the lid fits well it is not perfectly round. This bowl measures about 8" in diameter by 3 3/4" tall with lid (20 x 9.5 cm).
