A fine antique Japanese tanto (short sword) complete with matching scabbard, kozuka, and kogatana. This piece likely dates from the late Edo to early Meiji period (19th century).

Blade: Polished steel tanto blade with visible hamon (temper line). Tang is unsigned (mumei), with one mekugi-ana (peg hole). Blade length approx. [insert measurement].

Mounts: Black silk tsuka-ito wrapping over rayskin (samegawa), fitted with brass and mixed-metal menuki ornaments. Fuchi and kashira in matching design with fine details.

Scabbard (saya): Lacquered wood with a rich reddish-brown textured finish, complete with cord (sageo).

Kozuka & Kogatana: Kozuka handle decorated with engraved feather motif and gilded highlights. The kogatana (small utility blade) shows age and patina, typical for period pieces.

Additional implements: A matching kogai (hair arranging tool) accompanies the set, decorated to match the kozuka.
This tanto would have been worn by a samurai as part of his sidearm set and represents both utility and status. All fittings display excellent craftsmanship with a cohesive design.
Condition: Blade is in good condition with a clear hamon, showing expected wear from age. Fittings show natural patina and minor handling wear consistent with use. Kozuka blade has oxidation typical of its age. Saya lacquer in very good condition with only light surface wear.
