This is an antique set of 4 (four) Japanese Taisho era (c. 1910) lacquer kashizara (appetizer plate) made of hand turned cryptomeria wood with over twenty layers of brown lacquer called shunkei lacquer. It has raised artworks depicting flowers. Japanese lacquer is considered the finest in the world. It is durable enough to withstand treatment the centuries have thrown at it. Each kashizara has silver rim (see pictures). With exception of signs of past use on the bottom, these kashizara remain in very fine condition throughout and is in good polish. Measures 6" in diameter by 1/2" tall (15 x 1.5 cm).
