This is an antique Japanese mid Showa Era (c. 1940) bronze mini Usubata (flower vase). This vase was used in a butsudan (Buddhist family shrine) to offer flowers. It is made of a heavy bronze and has a thick raised design of birds on branches with flowers. The base is in the form of a lotus pod. The side handles depict elephant heads (see picture 2). This vase measures 4 1/2" wide at the fluted top to 3" at the base by 5 1/2" tall (11.5 x 7.5 x 14 cm). With exception to some signs of use with bumps and one cracked elephant head seen in pic 2 and all original deep patina, this bronze usubata remains in good condition. A beautiful way to display a small Please note, the rosewood display stand shown in picture 2 is NOT included with this listing.
