Antique Japanese Signed Forged Iron Gaff With Hinoki Wood Handle
Antique Japanese Signed Forged Iron Gaff With Hinoki Wood Handle
The is an antique Japanese gaf from the late Taisho to early Showa era. (c. 1928). It may have been used either in the fishing or agricultural industries. It is made of forged iron with a hand crafted handle made of Japanese hinoki cypress. This gaff is 8" overall (20 cm) and has a sharp hook that is 2 1/2" long (6 cm). Its tapering wooden handle flairs out at the end (see pictures 5 - 7) to produce a good grip. Other than a small loss to the bottom of the flaring handle (see pictures 6 & 7) it remains in very fine condition . Old world craftsmanship for the new world craftsman! A great collectible gaff and still very functional. Built samurai tough of samurai forged iron to last generations!
