Beautiful Japanese bronze usubata (flower vessel) used for ikebana arrangements, dating to the late Meiji–early Taishō period (c. 1900–1930). The form features a wide removable top basin, handled urn body, and tripod base, cast in solid bronze with a deep brown patina and highlighted in gold.

The body is finely decorated in relief with a mountain landscape—two travelers crossing a bridge beneath ancient pines, with a temple nestled among cliffs above. The scene is rendered in a painterly katakiribori (斜切彫) engraving style, which mimics the brushwork of ink painting through angled chisel lines. The details are partially gilt to accentuate depth and texture.

The imagery symbolizes harmony between humankind and nature: pines represent endurance and long life, while bridges suggest transition and auspicious passage. Usubata like this were traditionally used in temples or formal settings for seasonal floral displays, especially during ceremonies and the New Year.

Dimensions: approx. 11.5” H × 10” W (at rim)
